Tech Lunch Focus for August 2013: jQuery

Thanks to everyone who attended the Axian Tech Lunch on August 15th, 2013. Our focus was on jQuery. jQuery is a multi-browser JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML. It has become the most popular JavaScript library in use today. We at Axian utilize it for many of our clients in order to help implement cleaner, more elegant interfaces, and to reduce the amount of time we spend in development, thereby reducing the overall cost to our clients. We asked 3 presenters from our staff to share some valuable information on what they have learned about jQuery, in order to increase our awareness of jQuery as a team. The following is a summary of what they presented.

Dwain Fagerberg – Javascript vs. Java
Dwain Fagerberg delivered a presentation describing some of the various differences between Javascript and Java. This included some significant code pattern differences as well as some common pitfalls and gotchas one might run into between the two languages.

Sean Murphy – jQuery Mobile
Sean Murphy delivered a presentation on jQuery Mobile: where it is in the development cycle, the roadmap to where it is going, and some interesting components and widgets offered by the library. You can find more information about jQuery Mobile at http://jquerymobile.com/.

Brian Fox – Org Concerns w/ Javascript and jQuery
Brian Fox provided a presentation on large-scale organization concerns with Javascript and jQuery.
