The Nike Asia Pacific region spans 13 countries and
countless employees, suppliers, and vendors. Information
sharing across such a broad collection of
people and places was a daunting task. Aside from
the resolving geographic and technical challenges,
there was also a need to revamp how people communicated
with each other – moving away from static
emails, faxes, and letters. Nike was also looking for a
vehicle to efficiently communicate new business structures
and organizational changes to a broad base of
constituents.
Enter Axian and its Web Services development team.
In close collaboration with users and engineers at Nike, Axian (a local leader
in business intelligence and web technologies) designed and launched the
APonDemand SharePoint portal site for the Asia Pacific region in February
2008.
- A time-zone independent, centralized, and dynamic portal for Asia Pacific
team members to share information. The system provides easy access to the
latest news and business information with subscription capabilities.
- Blog-like collaboration forum capability where groups could share up-to-date
information on consumer trends, competitors and general insights from the field.
- Rapid time to value. Due to typical IT challenges like short delivery timelines
and limited resources, the APonDemand team chose to renovate a stagnant
SharePoint 2007 system utilizing Axian’s extensive design expertise.
- A phased implementation approach to balance immediate needs with longer
term goals. The solution was delivered as an initial platform release encompassing
the required basic business functionalities and has been evolving ever since.
Subsequent feature releases have continuously improved site usability and enhanced
features responding to user requests.
The results were outstanding and the project has received rave reviews.
APonDemand website is a finalist for two Nike internal ‘Maxim’ awards; ‘The
Consumer Decides’ and ‘It is Our Nature to Innovate’.
